Subtle Health

Please use this page for those who seek information and practical tips on meditation, yoga, breathing exercises, and essays pointing to deeper truths of life.

*Do stretching and yoga daily – even if it’s only 5 minutes.  Commit to your health!warrior3

*Breathing and the mind are connected.  Take faster breaths, especially outside when you feel drowsy or fatigued after being at a desk in stale office air.  It is normal and natural to feel fatigued after being under flourescent lights, breathing recycled air, and not moving much.  Take slower deeper breaths when you feel anxious or are under alot of fear.

*Get outside and move almost daily, even it it’s only 15-20 minutes.  best options are walks in nature, or in the garden.

*Meditation is not what we think – just sit silently, accept what arises, no matter what, and stay still for 20-45 minutes, depending on how long you can sit.  Surrender, accept, and see.  Notice what arises, let it be, fully feel it, then let it go (or let go into what has already let go).  See me for more info.

THE TEACHINGS – TAO TE CHING (A book of wisdom from China – over 2,000 years old)

Chapter 70 – Life’s Teachings

Life’s teachings are so easy to understand

And easy to put into practice

Yet the mind cannot grasp them

And trying to understand will always fail.

These teachings are older than the world

Their basis sound, their benefit great.

Most people do not try

To practice the unknown

And fail in the known.

If you want to know how to live

Look inside your own heart, your own feelings.

See the fullness and the emptiness.

The One’s who practice, know a truth

Wear plain clothes, and keep the diamonds underneath!

Translation – Craig Lane

From Rilke about transformation:

“We have no cause to be mistrustful of our world, for it is not against us.  If it has terrors they are our terrors; if it has abysses those abysses belong to us, if dangers are there we must strive to love them.  And if only we regulate our life according to that principle which advises us always to hold to the difficult, what even now appears most alien to us will become most familiar and loyal.  How could we forget those old myths which are to be found in the beginnings of every people; the myths of the dragons which are transformed, at the last moment, into princesses; perhaps all the dragons of our life are princesses, who are only waiting to see us once beautiful and brave.  Perhaps everything terrifying is at bottom the helplessness that seeks our help.”
